Scientific Study

Well, another set of scientific study results get filed under “Sherlock, Shit, No.”. According to researchers at the University of Bristol, children in affluent families grow up taller and thinner than those in less well-off families. No, really? What a shocker.

And of course there’s no correlation between an affluent family, and not having to buy “value” food items. No sir. None at all.

Firefox 1.0.3

   Posted by: lyle    in Geeky

Hmmm, well, Firefox is now being a pain. I installed the latest 1.0.3 yesterday, and the entire thing now keeps going tits up.

The pop-ups keep being blocked, which is great – except that it also blocks pop-ups that’re requested – you know, like blog comments, for instance.

So I’ve gone back to 1.0.2 and the hell with some of those sneaky pain-in-the-arse advertising pop-ups.

Ouchy

Posted by: lyle    in Health, Resolutions

Well, the ride home only took about 50 minutes. But shite I was knackered at the end of it. Still, I’ve proved I can do it now.

However, this morning all I can say is “Ow!”. There’s a couple of places where the saddle contacts with my body – no, not those bits – but bloody close – which hurt like a bastard. I knew they would, but still, Jesus Christ.

So today I’ve wimped out a bit, and rather than doing the full sixish miles each way, I’ve cheated and ridden to the train-station, used the train, then from trainstation to work. It’s still about two miles all told each way, but as Herself said last night, now I’ve proved to myself I can do it, and I’ve got a goal, I should perhaps take it a little bit easier than doing the full distance every day right from the start.

So yeah, I’m going to keep on doing it – but maybe just a little bit more sensibly than I did yesterday.

Oh, and yes, Anni, in relation to your comment, I was way optimistic on my timings. I know, I know. Definite faults in the calculations.
