Rubber Roads

Posted by: lyle   in Green, Travel

Interesting idea in this story from the BBC about a company with plans to use old disused/decommisioned railway lines, and create a road made from recycled rubber car tyres along them, which may go some way to helping relieve congestion.

So – a green option for helping to recycle rubber tyres instead of flinging them on landfill, and a way to make certain roads quicker and (possibly) cheaper than normal methods. And that uses less water etc. than the concrete that’s used in roads?

Sounds like a plan to me…

I deal with that company fairly often, they supply the recycled rubber matting that is used to enable heavy machinery to access or cross railway lines.

It’s a good product and the supplier is great do deal with.

Thumbs up from me!

Be nicer still if they could reopen them as railway lines.

Can’t have it all, I suppose.

Agrees with Si, Beeching was a cock, bring back all the lineshe closed. I use the rubber matting on kiddies playgrounds, except the cheapskate developers always substitute ten tonnes of bark chippings because its initially cheaper…….forgetting that the rubber stuff lasts for decades and is vandal proof and looks good.
