Updates are likely to be sparse today (well, sparser than normal) as I’m in a meeting with a different client today. This is the one I recently added to my portfolio (he says, sounding grand) which I mentioned a couple of weeks ago.
Basically, it’s a start-off meeting, laying out all the requirements and plans for the next month or three, and seeing where we go from here. It’s also a meeting with a supplier of tailored news feeds for the site in question, which should be interesting.
So yes, I’m out of the office (although signed up with a wireless account – God love wireless, it doesn’t half make life easier) and in a couple of meetings for the main part of the day. Have fun…
Now here’s a thing that’ll strike fear in the hearts of any sane individuals who read D4D™ on a regular basis…
Because we’ve bought a wood burner, over time we’re going to need logs. It’s a logical thing, I know. Now, obviously it’s better if you can source your own supply of logs, or combine with other people in the area, in order to source that supply. Apparently, these groups are called ‘chainsaw groups’ who will go out, and deal with a tree between them.
You can see where this is going, can’t you?
Yes, at some point this year I’m going to be taking a course to learn how to properly use a chainsaw. And, probably, buying one.
And if that concept isn’t enough to engender fear in your heart, you probably need to go see someone.
Sometimes, you witness something and afterwards you’re just not sure about it. There’s at least two interpretations of the events, and you don’t know – and likely will never know which one (if either) is right.
This morning, I watched something about as close to lethal as humanly possible. At a junction, a woman on a bike sailed straight through the red light, and was (at most) a couple of inches from being hit full-on by a bus. It was only the reactions of the bus driver that stopped her from closely resembling stawberry jam. With bits in.
For me though, the really grim – or, more accurately, potentially really grim- part was that the woman wasn’t alone on her bike. Behind her seat was a child seat – occupied.
And if I’m honest, it’s that which has preyed on my mind all day. I don’t know – I’ll never know- whether she was trying to commit suicide (well, murder/suicide) through getting hit by the bus (or whatever else was coming through the lights at the time) – or whether she was just stupid, wasn’t concentrating on the road and lights, or what. It’s impossible to tell.
Thankfully, last night both animals slept through. No hassles at all.
Of course, if only one of them had been a pain in the arse, I’d perhaps be less convinced that they’re acting together to deprive me of sleep. Now it just looks planned…
Out of interest, how impressed/despairing/sarcastic should I be when I discover that a company has hired a ‘webmaster’ who turns out to have absolutely no knowledge of HTML or CSS ?
And should I then take on any web-related work through that company?
There are times when I absolutely hate our animals. This weekend has been one of those times.
During the day, we’ve been up at the house working – Hound was with us for half of Saturday before coming home, and all of Sunday. Yet still at 5am each morning she’s started barking and being a pain in the arse until I’ve had to get up to find out what her problem is. Each time, it’s nothing. In fact, the only thing I can think of is that because of the conservatory on the house, the dawn chorus sounds really loud when I go into the living room, and maybe she’s barking at that.
However, with Psycho Cat it’s just that he’s a pain in the arse. He’s decided that he now needs to go back outside at about 4am, and because this place doesn’t have a cat-flap (and oh, man is that high on the purchase list for the new place!) he just sits and yells until I wake up to let him out. At 4am. Without fail.
About the only positive side is that if I simply strangle either of them, the odds are I won’t go to jail for it…
