On Off On Off

Out of interest, has there been a law change that I’m unaware of? Is it now illegal to use indicators while driving?

I only ask because today in my forty mile drive to work (at least 75% of which is on dual carriageways) not one driver indicated before:

  1. Pulling out in front of me
  2. Pulling back in to the inside lane
  3. Leaving the dual carriageway
  4. Getting on to the dual carriageway
    or
  5. Going round a roundabout

So it’s become illegal, right?

i know what you mean about people not indicating the other night a chap turing left in front of me never indicated i flashed my lgihts to tel him he was a tosser and he pulled over whats all that about hey

No!! They are not illegal. There are just some car manufacturers (BMW, Volvo, etc.) that have made cars without indicators. Don’t blame the drivers or the law.

If I ever get the opportunity (ie I pull in behind one of these at a fuel station or parking place) I say to them, very politely, “I thought I’d just let you know that your indicators aren’t working.”

I’ve never had a single person say, “I don’t bother to idicate!” They usually eitehr look at them, or say, “Oh, I’ll have to pop in to the garage to get them to fix them.”

I think that people who signal right on top of a junction are just as bad.

Indeed, BW – had one of those the other day, stopped at traffic lights and only indicating their desired direction once the lights had gone green and he started pulling away again.

One evening after an alcohol fuelled Xmas lunch so bloke failed to indicate that he was turning right into the side road I was crossing. He happened to have his window down, so I was “Oi mate, you know your right indicator isn’t working?” And he got all pompous and said “Madame, it is not required by law to indicate when you are turning into a side road.”

That was me corrected, then

You need to develop your psychic abilities. With practice, you will be able to foresee 95% of fidiotic fuckwitted mayhem. A decent sat-nav and plod detector should cover another 4%. 1% of the time, stay at home. Strangely enough, I have found these close calls happen in 3s, usually within 5 minutes.
