Timing

Is it just me who’s wondering whether there’s a hint of coincidence between London winning the Olympic bid for 2012, and 24 hours later a bundle of bomb blasts in the city ?

And particularly when the G8 conference is going on up in Edinburgh too?

Unless you’re suggesting the French and the G8 protesters have teamed up and bought WMD (could happen, I s’pose) then yes, it’s probably just you.

  2. Skytower says:

    Exquisite timing, isn’t it?

  3. Nothing to do with the Olympics whatsoever. If it had been, it could have just as easily have been Paris – and shows that it takes 12 hours or so to organise a co-ordinated attack. Likelihood is that it was timed with G8 as most of the Met and the anti-terror police happen to be at the other end of the country.

  4. Damo says:

How long will it be before Blair demands a US-Style Patriot Act to spy on U.K citizens and mandatory I.D cards now then?
    Or am I being paranoid?

My prayers are with you in London. As my co-workers and I watch from NJ, USA. I have just heard our President’s speech. Rest assured, we didn’t all vote for him.

It hurts to see so many lose so much, I thought those days were left behind. People of religion are incapable of barbarity, indeed most religions actively preach against it, these people who did this are not human and dont deserve to be treated with any humanity.
On a lighter note Lyle, it is a coincidence, but I don’t think the French hate us that much, well maybe they do, but heres two fingers to Chirac, go eat ur horsemeat and ur snails u pompous git.

  7. Lyle says:

I don’t think it’s France that’ve done this – I do, however, think that whichever city had won the Olympic bid would be the one that received bombs this morning.

  8. MrTeacher says:

    Sorry, too upset to think.

  9. Jann says:

Lyle, following that particular train of thought means that whoever’s responsible was organised enough to fly to one of five disparate world cities at the drop of a hat. While the bombings were in no way sophisticated, they were apparently well-planned (personally, I think it was the work of a loner) and to plan a co-ordinated strike in five cities spread accross the globe takes a lot of resources, resources that one would be ill-advised to waste on four non-starters. Whoever did this had obviously specifically targeted London for a long time and was simply waiting for their chance – a chance handed to them on a golden platter with the double whammy of the G8 and the Olympics win.

Oh, and let’s not take all the glory for hating Chirac, the French hate him too. He is a twat, after all.

  10. Lyle says:

Jann, I’m not saying it was organised enough for five different countries. However, at least three of the cities – all the front runners, in fact – were within a day’s travel. The two prime suspects can be connected in three to four hours. It doesn’t take that much effort to be able to get on board Eurostar, for instance, and opt for whichever city won. Even a loner (and I agree, I think it was a loner, or two-three people at most) would be able to do that.

If it had been a co-ordinated strike on all five cities, and assuming an organised international group, then it would’ve been done the day before, just before the Olympic results were announced.
