Redesigns (again) and things
Anna is now out of the gutter, and instead looking into the clouds (with minor apologies to Oscar Wilde) – and very nice it looks too. She’s also the “token woman” on Mike‘s next project…

Gadgets
Also in the list of purchases yesterday was a new little cheap digital camera – not bad for only £20. It’s no piece of high-res camera technology, but it’ll do nicely for snapshots – and it’s a lot easier to carry and use than the £500 thing I normally use.

Geneva convention
Following on with war-related concepts, Rumsfeld today has been bleating on about how showing American POWs on Iraqi TV is against the Geneva convention. And fair enough, it probably is.
What it looks like he’s forgotten though is that (to my knowledge) America never even signed the Geneva convention, and I’m about 95% sure that Iraq failed to do so either. Which makes it all a bit of a moot point really. Of course I could be wrong.
But considering that America has recently decided that it’s OK to hold POWs at Guantanamo Bay (technically US soil in Cuba) because they’re actually not subject to the US Bill of Rights, it’s just another fine example of “do as we say, not as we do”.

Geeky piss-take
I’ve just had a conversation with another website owner where she was saying she’d been trying to put a proper multiplication sign (i.e. an “x”) instead of the computer notation for it ( i.e. a “*”).
It didn’t take much to point out that it was simple to use the keyboard “x” for this notation.

Own Goals
Following on from the Tornado jet getting shot down by ‘friendly fire’, the BBC has a feature on How it can happen. Personally (if slightly xenophobically) I’d say that it’s mainly caused by fighting on the same side as the Americans – they seem to be far more lethal to their bloody allies than to their enemies.
ADDED – I knew I’d seen something else about friendly fire and American “marksmanship” – it’s here at Scaryduck’s special archive site.

The drugs don’t work
Looking through the Grauniad’s website, there’s an interesting piece from today’s Observer about drug-testing at work, as well as some of the outcomes that positive tests can have.

Writer’s Blog
Apologies for the appalling pun, but I’d just like to say that I’m really chuffed at having discovered the blog of Chaz Brenchley, an author I’ve been impressed with for years.
