Flavourings – Coke and Lime

As most people are already aware, Coke have been messing about with “Coke + flavouring” over the last couple of years. First came Vanilla, which is putrid (except with Vodka in it, but that’s perhaps missing the point slightly), then came Lemon, which most people associated with drinking Windolene.

With a lot less fanfare though comes Diet Coke with Lime. Sounds vile? (And yes, I know Pepsi are doing a Twisted Pepsi Max with Lemon and Lime.) Well, I wanted to try it, because on occasion I used to be known to put a dollop of lime cordial into normal coke, and it tasted pretty good. I’ve no idea where I got the idea from, but well, it tasted OK.

So, Diet Coke with Lime. Could be interesting. And I have to say, it’s really not bad. It might be on a limited-area trial at the moment, as the Coca-cola UK site doesn’t even mention it yet, but I’d say it’s definitely worth looking out for.

Snowy again

For once, it’s actually snowed and settled overnight. A whole centimetre of the stuff. Maybe two in some places. Some schools are closed for the day, a couple of coach firms have said they’re not going to be driving, and the roads are a nightmare.

How did we get to be such an amazingly crap nation when it comes to snow? Every year we get a couple of little flurries, and everything grinds to a halt.

It’s nice to know that other people are wondering the same thing.

Dental Visit

Oh joy, oh lucky me. A visit to the dentists. A necessary visit, in fairness, as I need a couple of little bits of work done fairly urgently.

And what’s all this guff about an NHS dentist being hard to find? I called one surgery which wasn’t taking on new patients, then they said “But you could try the surgery next door – I’m sure they’re taking on new NHS patients. Would you like the number?“. Hell yes. And lo, I rang them, no problem, come in ten minutes early for your appointment to fill in the paperwork. No problem.

Snowy 2

Actually, the walk to work wasn’t too bad at all. It felt warmer than it did last night (no blindingly obvious comments about it being daylight, please) so all in all it’s been an OK morning so far.

Herself is going to be dealing with the B&Q morons if/when they arrive. I’m still betting that they’ll have continued to screw it up, and won’t have the correct paperwork to remove all the items. Of course, I could be wrong. But I wouldn’t count on it, when it comes to that shower of shitheads.

Snowy

Well, it’s actually snowed here in Bracknell – and over most of the rest of the country, I’m pretty sure. I didn’t think it would do so, more that there would be like a dome of wasted warmth over the town, and so all the snow would melt before it got here.

I was wrong. Now I just have to walk to work in it. Woo-hoo. </sarcasm>

RIP

Another RIP to start the day off – Hunter S Thompson apparently shot himself over the weekend.

I’ve loved a variety of Thompson’s writing, including Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Hells Angels, and Songs of the Doomed.

Domesticity and Gardening

Yes, most of the weekend has been spent in the garden – and I’m knackered. Most of it’s not too bad: let me loose with a pair of secateurs and I’m normally quite cheerful. The plants might not be, but I am.

Anyway, Jasmine’s a bastard, and grows everywhere. Pine sap makes me cough. Never noticed it before, but today it did. Russian Vines are a determined bunch of sods, and take a lot of time to cut right back. Buddleias are fun – and easy – you just cut ’em right back.

Composters, on the other hand, are an utter sod. We’ve got two, and both needed emptying of compost, and any manky shite that hadn’t yet broken down needed to go back in. That’s not so bad in one of them, which actually has a hatch at the bottom so you can get stuff out. The other one was designed by some utter twunt who couldn’t see why you’d need access to the bottom of it, so it’s designed as one solid body. Grrrr.

Still, we’ve got a load of good compost out of ’em, and it’s saved a bundle on buying the stuff. And all the rest is back in (or all over my clothes) and going to be rotting back down a bit more.

Now, is that domestic or what? Pretty good exercise though, all that forking, digging, and trimming.
