Domestic Weekend

In addition, I got to add a new “can do” to my list of practical tasks. That task? Drain cleaning/unblocking. On Saturday I noticed that one of the drain inspection hatches was overflowing, so had a look inside (Yep, I can take a drain cover off without chopping off my fingers, too) and Oh, my God. I won’t describe it, but just *shudder*.
So anyway, off to the builder’s merchants round the corner, and buy a set of drain rods, plus the scrapy/twizzley thing that goes on the end. I’m sure they’ll be worth owning, should the same kind of thing happen again – and on a system with a septic tank, I guess that’s more probability than possibility.
It took about an hour all told to get everything sorted and unblocked, but it’s all done for the moment. It was definitely the way to put the “turd” in Saturday, though. Blech.
Sunday we painted the ceiling in the redone bathroom, as well as a whole bundle of things in the garden. We’ve even planted the rhubarb and three rows of potatoes, and there’s a load of other stuff to be done or planted over the next few weeks, which is all fun.
So it was quiet, but busy. And at least I can unblock drains now. Although it’s another of those things I’d rather pay some other poor schlub to do it, now I’ve done it properly for myself.
Last time I cleared a blockage the shite chased me back up the manhole before draining away, a scary moment.
