Whodunnit

Ever since the story of the little girl ‘abducted’ in Portugal last week started, there’s been something about it (OK, lots of things about it) that smelled bad.

Personally, I think the parents killed her – whether accidentally or deliberately, I’ve no idea – and the entire ‘abduction’ thing has been a ruse to divert attention and provide a reason for the child to suddenly not be around any more. I suspect that the Portuguese police are thinking along similar lines, from the way the search has never really seemed to be all that serious.

All the guff about ‘we left her and her younger brother and sister in the apartment while we went out for a meal – but we checked on them every half hour, honest‘ is just bizarre, especially when the apartment complex has a child-minding service etc.

Of course, I could be A) Overly cynical and B)Wrong – in many ways I hope I am, because whatever the result, it’s a pretty grim and sad situation.

Advert: We offer child minding service and baby monitors for your peace of mind.
Reality: Baby monitors = walkie talkies with the talk button taped down, Child minding = bloke on reception listening to walkie talkie.

This was our experience at a similar resort (run by different but equally respectable company) last year. Some do have a babysitting service if you’re prepared to go through the hassle of letting a stranger get your child(ren) to sleep in the site creche then having to wake them up and get them back to sleep when you get in.

I’m not saying you’re necessarily wrong but there is always more to the details than you’d first expect – and it works both ways.

Ok i do not have children i admit it and i do not know the hassles attached but i always thought rule number one in today’s world was don’t leave your children alone in the house/apartment with the door wide open because your children being asleep messes with your dinner plans. Get take out.
It is a horrible thing to happen would not wish to any one but take your eye off the ball and some sicko will take advantage of it.

You really need to take a look at your own life before your tiny brain contemplates the next outburst relating to how stupid other people are. It never fails to amaze me that you make excuses for your own failings (weight etc) but are happy to slate others for theirs. You’re an idiot.

That’s your opinion, Robert, and that’s fine.

As it is, you’ll notice that for my own failings I tend to say “Yep, I have my faults – I acknowledge that, I’m not perfect, nor is anyone else”.

Oh, and if you read the post properly, you’ll also see that I didn’t at any point call them stupid. I thought at the time (and have taken on board Dragon’s comments about the reality of the child minding service, which I didn’t know when I wrote the post) that to leave one’s children in the apartment rather than using the available child-minding service was bizarre.

With the addition of Dragon’s input, I can understand it more.

But I also have a policy of not editing posts afterwards, unless it’s necessary, so that post reflects my mindset/opinion at the time of writing. Thankfully, the same goes for comments, so your one will stay intact.

Of course, I could say ‘Fuck off. My site, my rules, your comment dies’. I haven’t, won’t, and have no intention of doing so in the future.

    But then, I’m an idiot.
