Snowy
Posted: Tue 22 February, 2005 Filed under: General, News Leave a comment »Well, it’s actually snowed here in Bracknell – and over most of the rest of the country, I’m pretty sure. I didn’t think it would do so, more that there would be like a dome of wasted warmth over the town, and so all the snow would melt before it got here.
I was wrong. Now I just have to walk to work in it. Woo-hoo. </sarcasm>
Life
Posted: Mon 21 February, 2005 Filed under: Thoughts Leave a comment »Lots of stuff going on at the moment, what with one thing and another. However, there’s a fair amount of it that I’m just not going to write about yet. I’m sure the rants will come thick and fast when I do get round to them, but at the moment it’s just not happening.
For fans of general twuntery, you’ll be pleased to know that B&Q are supposed to be coming tomorrow and removing the shit that they delivered incorrectly nearly a month ago. I reckon they’ll still fuck it up.
In a second piece of twuntery Royal Mail have been busy screwing up my mail redirections from Manchester to Bracknell, which nearly resulted in me losing the cheque from a client who only had my old address on the invoice. Yes, it’s taken them that long to pay. But we’ll gloss over that for now. I’m looking forward to finding out what their excuse will be.
I’ve also realised that possibly one reason that the new job is becoming a tad slow (other than the general slow pace of any ‘training’ I’m getting *rolls around laughing*) and so on is because I really, truly, honestly don’t give a sod about the marketing bollocks that’s wrapped all round the product. Yet it appears that really this job is a blend of marketing and geekery. Hmmm. Is a rethink needed? We’ll see.
RIP
Posted: Mon 21 February, 2005 Filed under: General Leave a comment »Another RIP to start the day off – Hunter S Thompson apparently shot himself over the weekend.
I’ve loved a variety of Thompson’s writing, including Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Hells Angels, and Songs of the Doomed.
Domesticity and Gardening
Posted: Sun 20 February, 2005 Filed under: General 2 Comments »Yes, most of the weekend has been spent in the garden – and I’m knackered. Most of it’s not too bad: let me loose with a pair of secateurs and I’m normally quite cheerful. The plants might not be, but I am.
Anyway, Jasmine’s a bastard, and grows everywhere. Pine sap makes me cough. Never noticed it before, but today it did. Russian Vines are a determined bunch of sods, and take a lot of time to cut right back. Buddleias are fun – and easy – you just cut ’em right back.
Composters, on the other hand, are an utter sod. We’ve got two, and both needed emptying of compost, and any manky shite that hadn’t yet broken down needed to go back in. That’s not so bad in one of them, which actually has a hatch at the bottom so you can get stuff out. The other one was designed by some utter twunt who couldn’t see why you’d need access to the bottom of it, so it’s designed as one solid body. Grrrr.
Still, we’ve got a load of good compost out of ’em, and it’s saved a bundle on buying the stuff. And all the rest is back in (or all over my clothes) and going to be rotting back down a bit more.
Now, is that domestic or what? Pretty good exercise though, all that forking, digging, and trimming.
Right Bloody Shower
Posted: Fri 18 February, 2005 Filed under: Customer Services, Thoughts 1 Comment »When I started my bank account with Royal Bank of Scotland I was told that part of the benefits of the account was that you could get a certain amount of legal advice either free, or at a very discounted rate.
Today I’ve tried using that service for the first time, and been told “Oh, sorry, we stopped doing that about nine months ago.” Would’ve been nice to have been informed about the change in services, as per your terms and conditions. “Oh, well, we stopped the motor insurance discount at the same time, and didn’t tell anyone about that, either“.
Hardly a recommendation, or designed to make me want to stay with ’em, is it?
NNnnoooooo! Rebranding Hell.

No more tube – it’s going to be a hexagonal job instead. (Easier to stack, and all that shite) No more plastic flip-off top, instead it’s going to be a cardboard tab.
And why’re they doing it? “to ensure the brand remained “fresh and interesting” to youngsters”.
Fucking twunts.
Suggestions
Posted: Fri 18 February, 2005 Filed under: D4D™ 3 Comments »As most of you have probably noticed, the title for d4d™ now changes each refresh. Some of the titles are very childish, and there’s at least one that has snuck into the list by mistake, but that I can’t be arsed to delete. Well, it makes me smile when I see it still in there – sad, but true.
So anyway – what other suggestions have you got for new titles? Any, all, or none may make it into my little database table.
