Delivery Times

Bah, HumbugRecently, I’ve had the fortune (or, in some cases, misfortune) to do a bundle of different purchases (No, not for the Festering Season™, but for birthdays, myself, and all that guff) and it still amazes me the difference in order processes- and in particular the delivery processes.

About a month back, I used DrinkOn.com for some wine, to be delivered elsewhere. The order process was really nice, dead easy – but wow did the delivery side let them down. They used a bunch of couriers called APC, who are (in my opinion) nothing short of shit. The first attempt at the order ended up with three bottles out of six broken. We complained, and DrinkOn sent out another order – which did get delivered OK, but all told it still took nearly three weeks to get it right.

Last Monday, I ordered two things from Amazon for my mum’s birthday, which (as it turned out) came from two different suppliers. One was despatched the same day, and got to my mum’s place the day after. The other one – ordered (and supposedly despatched) at the same time – finally arrived there today.

Then yesterday afternoon I ordered an OWL Wireless Electricity Monitor for us. And it arrived today – less than 24 hours after ordering it.

Now that is impressive.

If you think APC are bad, try ANC…

It amazes me how things vary from order to order with a particular company too.

The companies that annoy me most are those who make you wait a month before they will send a replacement if you don’t receive something in the quoted timescale, “Just in case it turns up.” With them it never does, even if it does, if you get my drift 😉

Fifty quid for that energy monitoring device?
Bloody hell! Much cheaper models are available… and some leccy companies are giving them out for free (or about to, as part of what they are being made to do so we can meet our carbon emissions targets)

What’s wrong with switching off lights and not leaving appliances on standby? I can just about see the use for them if you have kids, or are dim, and have no idea about power consumption, but where there are only 2 of you?)

  3. I run a drinks website and supply goods all over the UK. I used ANC to begin with and every week stuff got broken. I now use SPDS and they are great. They are a small company and there is rarely any problems when delivering in Scotland as they have their own transport up here. The English stuff they use different small companies and although problems do occur from time to time, mostly deliveries are made without problem.
