More Money Than Sense

A Russian millionaire buys a £5m house in Sandbanks, Dorset. However, he doesn’t like the house itself, just the land it’s on. So he plans to pull down this house he’s spent £5 million on, and then build another one (allbeit with a new extra bedroom, with its own sun terrace) for another £2.5m.
Now maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see the point of buying a house, only to knock it down and replace it.
But then, I don’t have £7.5 million to chuck down the drain, either.
It’s a very American practice that. Happening on a daily basis round here at present.
I suppose it’s about location, location, location. And Sandbanks is Location. I can see the logic. Often people end up getting their ‘perfect’ home but compromise on place. I don’t think he is chucking £7.5m down the drain. Most of the initial £5m will be for the land. Obviously, I don’t have that sort of money to throw around, but if I could afford a beach hut in Sandbanks I’d possibly knock it down and put in place one to my taste!
