Day Two (of four)

We haven’t done as much on the house today, although we’ve still been hugely busy.

We’ve visited various tile places – having done the measuring yesterday, we now know how many we need, so it’s all been about finding out what the right tiles will be, and how much it’ll cost for a huge number of them. (as well as what kind of discounts we can get) And it now looks like we’ll know what we’re getting, where from, and how much for. All rather reassuring.
Of course, now we just need to order it all – but that can’t happen ’til Tuesday, as the place won’t be open until then.
We’ve also checked out some lighting places and DIY places for the things we want.
And a chunk of the manky 80’s style fireplace is now gone – well, it’s on the floor at the moment, but it’s certainly no longer attached to the wall, which is definitely A Good Thing.

Day One (of four)

Well, that’s been busy.

  • Removed all crappy faux stone garden ‘decorations’. The fuckin’ bizarre people who were there before had fairies, owls, foxes, rabbits, pigs, frogs, and a couple of dodgy statue things. They’ve all been committed to the skip.
  • All the horrific 70s-style carpets have been removed, as well as the underlay – still (as we suspected) wet from the leak/flood we had back in February, so they’re in the skip
  • The remaining lump of furniture has been kicked apart (MAN, that was fun) and chucked in the skip
  • The garage has been emptied of all the left-over crap – it’s still got an amount of stuff in it, but that stuff should be at least useful
    and, finally,
  • the entire house and garden has been measured properly, so we know what we’re dealing with.

We’ve filled a six m³ skip with stuff – OK, there’s still some room for stuff like the carpet gripper rods and the like, and for a few other odds and sods, but still, it’s pretty much filled.
It’s been a busy day, but really pretty successful.
Mind you, we’re both utterly knackered now…

Four Days

The completion of the house purchase came in just in time.

It’s meant that – oh, lucky us, oh frabjous day – we’ve got the four-day Easter weekend to do some of the initial work on the place, before we actually move there at the end of April.

It’ll mean we can get rid of the horrific carpets in the place, the manky wallpaper, and the truly horrendous little faux-stone ‘ornaments’ in the garden. Oh, and whatever’s been left in the garage (apparently they ‘didn’t have time’ to clear it out. *ahem*) can go in the skip too.

Yes, we’ve managed to hire a skip already. Impressive service – ordered at about 10am, and there by 6pm same day.

And that is what we’re going to be doing all weekend.
