Ireland – First Photos
Posted: Tue 14 June, 2005 Filed under: Photography, Travel Leave a comment »Well, the first two sets from Ireland are now up on Flickr. Both sets were taken on the second day, going down from Kilkenny to Waterford, and then on to Cork. Round Towers and High Crosses is pretty descriptive, as is Kells Watermill, a watermill just round the corner from Kells Priory in – you’re way ahead of me – Kells.
More will be up later, I’m sure – but for now, Enjoy.

Posted: Mon 13 June, 2005 Filed under: Travel 2 Comments »Well, first thoughts. For the first time ever, I managed to do a trip to Ireland where nothing went wrong. In fact, the biggest “problem” was the flight back, which was delayed for about 90 minutes. (Herself says two hours, but quite honestly I don’t know which is right)
I’ve no idea how many miles we covered in the end, but the basic route was Dublin – Kilkenny – Waterford – Cork – Killarney (and Kenmare) – Limerick – Tipperary – Cashel – Dublin – Powerscourt – Dublin.
768Mb of photos later – a selection of which will be on Flickr sometime tomorrow, I suspect – we had a bloody great time. Some of the B&Bs etc weren’t brilliant, but nor were they bloody awful. One was superb – and included a breakfast that beat me. In fact I’ve probably amassed my year’s quota of meat in the last week. Even more impressively, I didn’t gain even one pound in weight, which left me quite chuffed, considering how much we did eat.
I’m going to do more of a write-up soon, but for now it can be summed up in two words. Bloody brilliant

I’ve not used it that much ’til now, because it was easier to access the stuff from work or home, but having the ability to look at it via another medium is brilliant.
As it was, I needed the email access as I got details of my new job through during the week, and there were a couple of questions and alterations that needed doing. And I could do it all (with the exception of downloading the Word document of the contract, which needed an internet cafe) through the ‘phone. It made life a whole load easier, and with a lot less hassle – if I hadn’t had that access, I’d have been having to check daily on my web-mail from an internet cafe, and while it turned out there were plenty of them, it was much easier to do it all when the time suited, rather than getting to a new town/ city, and trying to find internet access every time.
All in all, it turned out to be a fantastic development, and one I’ll probably use again at another time, should the need arise. But use it every day? No, there’s no need for that.

Because of course a Saturday isn’t going to be when most people go and use a bank for that kind of thing, is it?
Yes, Nat-West Bank I’m referring (in this case) to you, you heap of incompetent unhelpful supercilious fuckmonkey cunts.
So instead we used the Post Office. Much easier. And at least they’ve (on this occasion) got some kind of idea when it comes to things like customer service.

Still, that’s what’s needed for a 6.45 flight time, I suppose. And it gives us plenty of time to get from Dublin to Kilkenny in time for the wedding. Well, that’s the theory, anyway.

The concept of being trapped on a tube train for more than an hour just makes me want to heave. Not because of claustrophobia – that’s not too much of a problem for me. Not because of (most likely) having to stand for that length of time, either.
No, the problem would most likely be that I’d be certain to be stood right next to the dirty smelly fuckbag who hadn’t bothered with deodorant that morning. And then I’d simply have to kill them.

Posted: Sun 29 May, 2005 Filed under: Thoughts, Travel 2 Comments »In about ten day’s time, we’ll be off to Ireland for a week. We’ve finally got our accomodation requirements sorted out – it’s taken this long to get round to it.
Between now and then, I’m going to be writing some stuff that’ll go up while we’re away, but well, this is kind of advanced warning that I haven’t died, I’m just away.
Of course, there’ll be a whole bundle of stuff to go up when we come back, but that’s just the way of these things sometimes.
