Thanks

Bah HumbugOops, knew I’d forgotten something…

Huge thanks to Alex for my Secret Santa present, the complete Dr Who shooting scripts. (for the most recent season) It’s utterly superb, and will come in very useful over 2006.

Cheers again!

Crumpler

Well, despite one of the nastiest websites I’ve seen in a while (so bad I’m not going to even link to it) I’ve just ordered myself a new Crumpler camera bag.

I did get a camera bag along with the new camera for my birthday, but having used it a fair bit, it’s just – well – ungainly. Awkward to get into, a pain in the ass to carry (it’s a bag with a handle, rather than the more helpful straps’n’stuff) and just generally not suited for the stuff I do with cameras. It’s great for use at home, or in the car, but for general walking around it’s not ideal.

So yes, I’ve ordered a new Crumpler bag, bizarrely named (as are all Crumpler bags) the “Formal Lounge”. It’s big enough to hold the camera plus lenses, plus laptop, and still some space for other normal stuff too. It’s going to be interesting, using it and carrying everything around.

A proper review will follow once I’ve used it a while, probably at the end of January, or thereabouts.

Home based

This week I’ve been lucky enough to be working from home. It’s one of the cool things about working with web-based companies – you don’t actually need to be in the office, so long as you have the necessary gubbins at home. As for the “lucky enough to be working” bit, well, the company decided that they would acknowledge the people who worked between Christmas and New Year (as it was more of a voluntary thing – we don’t have to work, it’s our choice) by paying us extra for the days we work. Sounds good to me.

So yeah, I could’ve taken the time completely off, but well, I’ve got a fair amount to be getting on with, so it makes sense to do it and get paid extra rather than busting a gut on Jan 2.

Anyway, I digress. While working at home I’ve actually been a lot more productive than I am at work. I managed to sort out the entire company website yesterday, for example – from scratch to completed in less than a day.

I think I’m going to try and organise it with work that I can work from home one day a week in 2006. It makes a lot of sense in general, especially if my productivity continues to be so significantly improved…

Strokes of Genius

Today in Bracknell is hovering around the 0°C mark. In other words, pretty much freezing cold.

So one of the people up the road has decided to wash their car. The path is now covered in ice.

Fucking genius. You just couldn’t make it up.

WP2.0

Hmm, so WordPress has released version 2.0. I know, I should go and install it right now but somehow I just can’t be arsed. It’ll wait.

Mainly, I know what a hassle it’ll be to install it all, and then tweak everything (again) to get it to fit in with how I’ve done d4d™ And right now I just can’t be keffed with all the hassle it’ll be. So there. Maybe next weekend, or something.

Crash Bandicoot

One of the things I received over the Festering Season was a new PSP game, Crash Tag Team Racing. It’s not my normal type of thing, but it’s OK.

However, I’d already like to batter the designers of it round the head. I thought I’d give it a go today – just a brief play, see what it was like, as I hadn’t actually managed to even put it in the PSP ’til today. (Herself’s sister, who also got a PSP for Christmas, kind of snaffled it and played it *cough* “to see what it was like” ) And before I knew it, 90 minutes had passed. And I was still very little the wiser about what I was actually supposed to be doing…

Grr.

Pre-prepared

So, there goes the last of the pre-written posts. Can’t be bad, eh?

I must admit, it’s something I really like in WordPress, the ability to write posts beforehand, and know they’ll just go live when I’ve told them to, no hassles rebuilding pages and whatever.

And now we’re not away again for a while, so it’ll be back to writing posts as they occur to me, rather than having to consider whether I should leave them for a later date, or when I’m away for the weekend, or whatever.

Although, if I’m honest, I’ll probably still do that. There’s going to be a lot of stuff going on in 2006, and it does mean we’re likely to be busy more often than not, particularly on weekends. So yes, I may still write post-dated stuff for weekends and the like. We’ll see.

Anyway, for the moment we’re back to business as usual chez D4D™
