Washing Machine minus £90
Posted: Mon 3 November, 2008 Filed under: Customer Services, Domestic, Getting Organised Leave a comment »When we ordered the washing machine, we paid £440. (OK, that’s rounded up – we paid about 5p under that)
However, when we got home, we did some checking around and found that another place had it for £370, which is a fairly significant difference.
Thankfully, the place we ordered from has a price-match guarantee, so I went in there yesterday with the printouts, and they’ve paid back that difference. Even better, their price promise is that they’ll then undercut the price by £20 – so all told, we’ve managed to get £90 back, and thus will be getting our new washing machine for the princely sum of £350 instead of £440.
Not bad, for an hour’s “work” on t’internet, I think you’ll agree.
Washing Machine
Posted: Sun 2 November, 2008 Filed under: Domestic Leave a comment »On Friday, my washing machine finally died. Despite being out in the utility room, and having two closed doors between it and us, we could still hear it banging around while on full spin. On initial viewing, it looks like something has broken in the connections on the main drum, so yes, it’s pretty knackered.
I don’t mind too much – I’ve had it for ten years, and it’s moved five (if not six) times, so we’ve had a good-ish run out of it.
But it means we’ve ordered a new one, which’ll be delivered on Tuesday. It’s a new Hotpoint one, with a (supposedly) super-quiet drive, which should help with lessening Hound’s idiocy when the spin-cycle kicks in as well.
Mission Successful

For the first time ever she’s utterly unfussed by the bangs – and with no additional pills, sedatives or tranquilisers.
Although Hound is also definitely getting older – 90 minutes on the beach has been enough to knacker her out, but I’m just so pleased that we’re finally at the stage where the fireworks don’t seem to bother her. It’s taken long enough to get here, so let’s hope it lasts a while now.
Beach Trip
Posted: Sat 1 November, 2008 Filed under: Animals, Domestic, Travel Leave a comment »Tonight, the next village along is having its firework night party. I don’t think we’ll actually hear anything of it at all, but due to the date, we’re going to be spending most of today exhausting Hound.
So it looks like we’ll be off to one of the North Norfolk beaches – Wells or Holkham most probably – to let her run about like a loon. Then (probably) a late-ish lunch, another run on the beach, and then home.
It’s nice that Hound is getting older – she doesn’t need as much exhausting as she used to. After all, three years ago (as this post shows) it was an all-day affair that needed four or five walks but now we should get away with two.
All the same, there is a lot to be said for the levels of daftness we’re exhibiting. I just hope the weather’s OK, or we’re going to be thawing out while Hound snores her head off throughout the evening…
