Intruder Alert
Posted: Sat 15 August, 2009 Filed under: Animals, Domestic, Weirdness Leave a comment »The other day, at about 5.30am, Hound started growling and barking. This is her ‘normal’ (in as much as anything Hound does ever being seen as normal) alarm behaviour, when something’s going on that she thinks we need to know about. It’s reserved for strange Bad Things happening.
In this case, all her attention was being paid to the front door, so I went and had a look.
It turned out to be daylight, coming through a tiny gap at the edge of the curtains that cover the front-door area at night. Hound’s Alarm Bark was because of sunlight.
As soon as I moved the curtain, she looked at it in a bemused “Where’s the invader gone?” expression. And then went and laid down in her basket again, to go back to sleep.
Poxy fucking creature.
Be Afraid

And if he sleeps outside, it’ll be on one of our cars, like this…
Aren’t we lucky?
Blind Dog

This is a post about a dog going blind, and it makes for really interesting reading…
Overheating
Posted: Tue 21 July, 2009 Filed under: Animals, News, Stupidity, Thoughts Leave a comment »I didn’t comment at the time when the story first broke, but I’m really pleased to see today that the police officer whose dogs died in a car outside the headquarters for Nottinghamshire Police is to be charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the animals.
Obviously no-one outside the situation knows the full story of what happened – yet. Regardless, it’s hard to imagine any dog owner – let alone the owner/trainer of two police dogs – just leaving their dog(s) in a car on a hot day. Personally, I don’t understand how anyone can let it happen.
I don’t care whether you’re in a meeting, or get called into something “important”, if it’s that hot and you know you’ve left dogs out in the car, you say so and then get out to make sure they’re OK. It’s that simple. Of course, ideally you’ve not got dogs in the car on a day like that anyway, but sometimes it does happen.
But whatever happens, if your job is based around animals, you simply don’t let those animals die (or suffer) needlessly.

Couldn’t agree more.
Sure, I’m not perfect at it – who is? – but it’s certainly an ethos I subscribe to.
Missing Moggy
Posted: Mon 13 July, 2009 Filed under: Animals, Domestic Leave a comment »Currently, Psycho Cat is missing – he had a bad day yesterday, which involved being stuck halfway up a neighbour’s tree for most of the afternoon. He got down with a bit of assistance in the end, but we haven’t seen him since.
I’m fairly sure he’s just in a grouch about it all, particularly in conjunction with his vet visit last week, but all the same, it’s a bit of a concern.
UPDATED : OK, found the little sod now. No idea where he’d been, but he was up annoying the chickens. So all’s OK, I’m pleased to say.
Vet Results
Posted: Fri 10 July, 2009 Filed under: Animals, Domestic 2 Comments »Psycho Cat came back fine in the end – although the General Anaesthetic leaves him a twitchy, drooling wreck for the remainder of the day.
The lumps turned out to be serious clumps of fur, from the look of it – Psycho Cat hasn’t let us near him yet to check it out properly. Whatever, they haven’t needed surgical removal or anything. No bad thing, as I suspect Psycho Cat would never forgive us in that circumstance.
So all’s back to normal – or at least as close to it as we ever get.
And tomorrow is another long drive, down to Oxfordshire for my father’s 65th birthday, and then back home in the evening. Joy of joys.
