Wind and Trains

Getting home was – hmmm – interesting. Yeah, that’s a good word.

There are no trains running to Attleborough – none at all. Quite how One is expecting people to get home, I’ve no fucking idea. But I’d lay money that all the customer services people (all two of them) fuck off home before 5pm tonight.

Luckily, I’d opted to leave early so that I could be certain of being back in time for the appointment with the IFA. So I left the office at half two, got to the station, discovered that basically there’s no trains going at all – reduced service my arse, bunch of cunts.

Then I got lucky for a second time. I called Avis, who I’ve dealt with before, and got the last car that they had available. Ten minutes later, I was at their office, hiring a Ford Focus. Nowt special, but it suited my needs. I got home just after four.

There may have been a bit of speeding. I blame a tailwind.

@Media 2007

I had an email when I got home last night from Vivabit saying that the registration for @Media 2007 is now open.

I went last year, and it was well worth it. However, I doubt that my current workplace would stump up for it, even the £400 plus VAT for an “Early Bird” ticket. So I’ve paid for it myself. I might get it back at some point, I suppose.

But regardless, it’ll be worth going to. So I’m not worried either way, I’m just happy I’ve got my ticket…

Paperwork

So, tonight we’re going to be meeting back up with the IFA, so we can get the finalised mortgage application under way. And we’re going to be taking one hell of a lot of paperwork with us. This includes :

  • Proof of ID (Passport)
  • Proof of Address (Driving Licence – both parts)
  • Property Address
  • Solicitor’s Details/Address
  • Estate Agents Details/Address
  • 3 months of payslips, plus last P60
  • Bank Details (for both of us)

We’ve already got the Agreement in Principle (AIP), so it shouldn’t be too much hassle to get the main thing. However, I’m still not convinced – after all, there’s a lot of paperwork to go through, and I still think they’re going to shit all over us for me being a contractor, regardless of everything they’ve said leading up to this point.

In addition, we’ve sorted out to meet an architect at the new place a week on Friday, so we can discuss the plans we’ve got, and see what’s going on. That should be quite interesting – I’ve spoken to three or four now, and the one we’ve gone with (initially) appears to be quite cool, and not too up himself. Which, in my opinion, is always a good starting place.

But basically there’s going to be one hell of a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy over the next couple of weeks, and I’m not looking forward to any of it.

Still, at least I’ve got Inland Revenue out of my hair.
