Flavourings – Coke and Lime
Posted: Fri 25 February, 2005 Filed under: General, Reviews(ish) 3 Comments »As most people are already aware, Coke have been messing about with “Coke + flavouring” over the last couple of years. First came Vanilla, which is putrid (except with Vodka in it, but that’s perhaps missing the point slightly), then came Lemon, which most people associated with drinking Windolene.
With a lot less fanfare though comes Diet Coke with Lime. Sounds vile? (And yes, I know Pepsi are doing a Twisted Pepsi Max with Lemon and Lime.) Well, I wanted to try it, because on occasion I used to be known to put a dollop of lime cordial into normal coke, and it tasted pretty good. I’ve no idea where I got the idea from, but well, it tasted OK.
So, Diet Coke with Lime. Could be interesting. And I have to say, it’s really not bad. It might be on a limited-area trial at the moment, as the Coca-cola UK site doesn’t even mention it yet, but I’d say it’s definitely worth looking out for.
Snowy again
Posted: Fri 25 February, 2005 Filed under: General, Thoughts 1 Comment »For once, it’s actually snowed and settled overnight. A whole centimetre of the stuff. Maybe two in some places. Some schools are closed for the day, a couple of coach firms have said they’re not going to be driving, and the roads are a nightmare.
How did we get to be such an amazingly crap nation when it comes to snow? Every year we get a couple of little flurries, and everything grinds to a halt.
It’s nice to know that other people are wondering the same thing.
PICS
Posted: Thu 24 February, 2005 Filed under: D4D™, Geeky, Sweary 2 Comments »Via Gordon, who’s banging on about PICS labels, I’ve now added one to d4d™.
PICS “was originally designed to help parents and teachers control what children access on the Internet, but it also facilitates other uses for labels, including code signing and privacy.
As you can see here, I don’t have nudity or pictorial violence on the site, but the profanity count is through the roof. Can’t figure out why the shit I would be so high on that bastard though. Oh, um, yeah.
You can sort out your own PICS tag using The ICRA label generator. Fun for all the family.
Inspiration
Posted: Thu 24 February, 2005 Filed under: D4D™, Geeky 3 Comments »It’s weird where inspiration strikes. I know I’ve been reading Karen’s reviews on Uborka.nu regularly, but this morning I woke up and had the database schema etc. for my own similar system all mapped out in my head. That’s really sad, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’ve been working on it today, and while I know I’m going to expand on the functionality in it later on in the week/month/year (depends when I get round to it) but the ability is there now. I just can’t be arsed to code it all at once. Pathetic, eh?
It’s not quite ready to be added to the navigation – but it’s going to happen in the next day or so for sure. Some tweaking (and, if I’m honest, some adding of data into the database first of all!) is still needed, as is a little bit of testing.
But why on earth did I wake up this morning with it just there in my head?
Dental Visit
Posted: Thu 24 February, 2005 Filed under: General Leave a comment »Oh joy, oh lucky me. A visit to the dentists. A necessary visit, in fairness, as I need a couple of little bits of work done fairly urgently.
And what’s all this guff about an NHS dentist being hard to find? I called one surgery which wasn’t taking on new patients, then they said “But you could try the surgery next door – I’m sure they’re taking on new NHS patients. Would you like the number?“. Hell yes. And lo, I rang them, no problem, come in ten minutes early for your appointment to fill in the paperwork. No problem.

Worthwhile cause
Posted: Wed 23 February, 2005 Filed under: Customer Services, News 2 Comments »It seems worth pointing out that Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce is NOT the one in the current “Sudan 1” food scare. And the Worcester MP has filed an EDM to say so.
While the anchovy essence in Worcestershire sauce mean it’s not for vegetarians, it still has a whacking 99% share of the market. Not bad going, really.
