Bye Thatcher (Unfortunately Carol, Not Maggie)
Posted: Wed 4 February, 2009 Filed under: Cynicism, News, Offensive Repetition, Thoughts 4 Comments »While I have no problem with Carol Thatcher being chucked off the BBC’s “One Show” (although I’d dispute it’s a “top show”) it really bugs me – yet again – that the BBC gets to be so hypocritical by reporting the story, including the offensive word, ad nauseam.
In fact, having gone years without hearing the word that the bigoted old trollbag used, I’ve now heard it no less than ten times in the last twenty-four hours.
And yes, I know I harp on about this (enough that I’ve now made it a category on here) but the hypocrisy of it really fucks me off on a regular basis.
Brown

Simple as that.
Mind you, as my dad used to say, there are times like this where it’s just not your time to die, regardless.
Mountains out of Molehills
Posted: Fri 23 January, 2009 Filed under: News, Thoughts, Weirdness Leave a comment »It’s weird, but in the last couple of days there’ve been two stories I’ve noticed in the media where a small argument or action has exploded into a murder.
First there was the row that started over the name of a kitten, and ended up with one person stabbing the other.
Then there was the man who murdered his estranged wife because she changed her Facebook status to ‘single’.
Now, I know – and freely admit – that sometimes I let stupid little things build up until I get pissed off, but then it all goes out and job done. I can’t see that those things would ever build up to me killing someone. Maybe that’s why these stories are (to me) so very, very strange.
*Shudder*

Since then, I’ve always been pretty squeamish about eyes, and damage to them.
So this story just brings me out in shudders. One remarkably lucky person, to not lose his sight/eye/life, but all the same, *shudder*
Italian Job Solved
Posted: Tue 20 January, 2009 Filed under: News, Thoughts Leave a comment »Hang on a minute lads, I’ve got a great idea…
Last year, the Royal Society of Chemistry issued a challenge to people to come up with methods of solving the problem at the end of the original Italian Job film, where the coach hangs over the cliff-edge, loaded with gold that they can’t get to.
The Telegraph today has a list of the shortlist top five solutions – which are pretty entertaining in themselves.
You’ve just got to love a competition that brings up so many armchair inventors/engineers with such a range of surreal solutions. Only in Britain, I suspect…
Tony Hart

All the same, a significant loss.
Golf Club Boom
Posted: Mon 5 January, 2009 Filed under: News, Technology 2 Comments »While I’m not a golf player (I stick with that “Golf is a good walk ruined” aphorism) I found this story on the BBC to be quite interesting.
Basically, a new generation of “thin-faced titanium” clubs make a noise on contact with the golf-ball that has been measured at up to 130dB . That’s loud – and it’s been found as potentially causing hearing damage in some golfers.
