Londinium

Well, we’re back home. Knackered, but it was worth it.

I’ll write more about the St Martins Lane Hotel on Where’s Good (and add a link here when I’ve got round to it – ooh look, there it is) but well, while it was OK, I can honestly say I wasn’t overly impressed. It’s OK – I’ve certainly stayed in far worse – but the overall impression is one that can be summarised as “Trying way too hard”.

Sound of Music, on the other hand, was bloody marvellous. I must be one of the very few people in the world who has never seen the film, so I didn’t really know what to expect – yes, I’ve seen clips, and know most of the songs, but I’d not seen the show in its entirety.

Anyway, it was absolutely great. On a techie front, the set is stunning – the way scenery changes and moves is brilliant. The rest of it, cast etc. is great too – well worth the price of the tickets, and definitely something worth seeing.

Music

Bah, HumbugThe last day in the office, it’s pretty quiet except for the fact that someone has decided to bring in a sound system, and put on a bloody Christmas CD.

I could cry.

Bah, fuckin’ humbug indeed.

Still, at least the header image on D4D™ automatically changed today, so that worked. *grin*

Whupped

So tired it’s unreal.

Still, could be worse. And at least the driving and so on went OK. But yes, I’m now utterly knackered. And it’s only 5pm…

Late Night

Tomorrow, I’m in a two-day training course. In Poole.

So tonight I’m meeting up with the colleague that I’m attending the first two days with – it’s a conglomeration of courses, with my stuff being Monday & Tuesday, hers being Monday Tuesday and Wednesday, with the other two people in the team coming for Tuesday and Wednesday’s courses. She’s got another appointment first, so I won’t be leaving Cambridge ’til at least 10pm, if not 10.30.

The AA’s routefinder reckons it’ll take me three hours to do the journey – and at that time of night, it’d better take me a bit less than that.

All the same, things will be quiet here for the next couple of days…

Photographic Paraphenalia

This week, I’ve sorted out the last semi-major purchase of photo gear this year. It’s already just over a year since I bought the EOS20D, and I’m still really pleased with it – although I’ve known there was extra stuff I needed to buy.

So this week I’ve been able to get the 100mm f2.8 Macro lens (which is bloody huge) plus lens hood, a Speedlite 580EX flashgun, and a small home-studio thing so I can start taking some specific photos of stuff that Herself has been working on – which will also be one of the websites for developing very soon now.

As such, I’ve now got pretty much all the stuff I want right now, and the set-up I’ve got is capable of wide-angle landscapes, macro, portrait, flash, and all the general types of photography I’m currently interested in.

I just don’t want to think about just how much it’s all cost, or what the value of the gear is!

Danger, Danger

Oh dear, oh dear. I’m at a course in Poole on Monday and Tuesday, and have hired a car that’ll get me and a colleague down there on Sunday night.

Avis have given me….

A Renault Laguna Estate. 2.0L.

Oh dear, oh dear. I’m going to have fun.

Health and Safety

In the office, a spate of little “health and safety” signs have gone up this week.

My current favourite is the one on all doors to stairwells in this office, which read “Caution : People on Stairs

I’ve no idea why this could be a risk to health and safety, but what I do know is that whenever I use those stairs, there’s no other bugger on them at all. So shouldn’t it actually be “Caution: People may be on the stairs” ?
