Nom de Plume

While I remember (and thanks to the people who asked) I would like to say once and for all that no, I have not written a book under the names Alan MacArthur or Steve Lowe.

However, if I’d thought of it first, I possibly would have done so.

Sometimes life’s shit, and there’s absolutely knack-all you can do about it.

Travelling

Right, away off to “sunny” Manchester for the weekend. I’m actually looking forward to it – even the dollop of motorway driving I’m going to be doing. Should be fun.

More on Sunday when we get back, I’m sure.

Meeting

Gah – updates will be few and far between today.

Got in to the office to find that the entire network was broken, no access to anything.

Then a two hour meeting to sort out the work for the next week before the deadline comes and kicks us in the arse on Friday.

And then I’m away, going up to Manchester for the weekend.

So yes, updates will be sparse…

Blog Tool

Wow, that’s scary. I’m now a good 90% of the way to having written a complete multi-user (and I do mean seriously multi-user) blogging tool. It’s “just” comments to go now.

Of course, this is just version 1. There’s a lot of development still to go on with it, but the basics are there and running.

Who knows, I may even end up using it myself – although for the moment WP is sufficient for my needs.

And before anyone asks, there were major reasons for supposedly re-inventing the wheel on this one. Not least that nobody short of typepad has come up with anything that works in even vaguely the same way. (i.e. multi-user, all using the same basic domain – so blogs appear at username.site.com , and a bundle of other things.)

Sometimes I’m so geeky I even scare myself…

Sin City

I got Sin City on DVD recently from ScreenSelect, and watched it last night. I don’t know quite what I’d expected, but for once I just couldn’t be bothered.

In fact, I only watched half of it.

Visually it’s a stunning film – one of the slickest I’ve seen, and that emulates the comic-book feel perfectly. However, just being visually stunning isn’t enough : it still needs acting ability, decent dialogue, and lots of other stuff. And to me that’s where Sin City falls down.

Overall, not impressed.

Word of the Week

I don’t know where the hell I’ve picked it up from, but this week’s Word is “Crufty” meaning dodgy, manky, or mucky.

I’d love to know where my brain picks these things up from, and why it sometimes fixates on them to a strange degree.
