I have to say, there’s something ineffably gross about this story of a man who has been smearing shit over train carriages in the South-East.
So far he’s done this on about thirty trains, which has cost about £60,000 in cleaning costs and damages.
Really it just makes you wonder how some peoples minds work, doesn’t it?

Blimey, as of Monday I’ll have already been in the new job for a month. That’s really quite scary, the way time has zipped through like that.
Thankfully all’s still good, according to the review I’ve had today I’ve settled in OK and most people seem to like me. Don’t quite know how I’ve managed that one, as I normally land in a new job with all the tact, charm and subtlety of a small nuclear device. But apparently I’ve managed it this time.
Of course, I’ll be happier (and life will be considerably easier) once we’ve moved up this way, and then I can just do a daily commute instead of a weekly one. But that won’t be happening ’til at least the start of December, and I’m beginning to suspect that it may actually end up being the start of January. Hmm, moving over the Christmas break – that’ll be fun…

My organisation stuff is now really getting a little bit worrying.
This morning I’ve sorted out train tickets for the first two weeks of November for getting to work, and I’ve also sorted out the accommodation side of things. All my paperwork is up to date, and so are all my finances. The people I know who have birthdays coming up are all sorted, cards in the post, presents dealt with, and all that crap.
Work-wise, I’ve got everything done that I need to, and I’m ready for going home.
There’s got to be something I’ve forgotten. But what?

So, that’s the third week at the new job completed.
All’s still going well, and I’ve settled in pretty well. It was quiet yesterday in the office asmost of the floor is away at some team-day or other – I opted to stay in the office, as it would’ve been an utter pain in the arse to go off on that while also carrying the Big Yellow Bastard (my holdall with a week’s worth of clothes etc.) and then making my way home from the Arsehole of the Universe. (Say no more) particularly as I’d also booked my ticket to come back from Cambridge, rather than from Arsehole of the Universe.
It’s still odd, not going home every night to Herself, Hound, and Psycho Cat, but it’s tolerable. As Herself’s new job has still not given her a start date (they’re still waiting for the CRB check to come back, then we’ll be able to get official dates sorted) I reckon I’m still going to be doing this ’til at least the start of December, so another six weeks or so.
By then, I reckon I’ll be pretty chuffed off with the entire thing, but for now it’s still OK and tolerable.

Every morning this week, the hotel I’ve been using has done scrambled eggs. It’s another buffet-style breakfast thing, similar to last week’s Travelodge effort, but with some kind of attempt at being better than a Travelodge, of course. After all, it was £30 more per night – there must have been something to define it as better. (Although I have to admit to being slightly stumped as to what that improved index of value perception might’ve been. Lack of rattly air-conditioning, perhaps?)
Anyway, scrambled eggs are – in general – fine. But this place somehow managed to make them watery. And I just don’t know how. I’ve made scrambled eggs on many occasions, and on at least a couple of those occasions I’ve made a complete bollocks of them. Burned is possible. Squash-balls of scrambled egg is possible. Bits of shell is possible, if unlikely. Undercooked is possible, if even more unlikely than the bits of shell.
But watery? Nope, never managed that. These were cooked OK, there was no possibility of under-cookage (is that a word? You know you’ve been involved in marketing departments for too long when you find you’re making up words, or not sure whether it’s a real word or not. Impactful, I ask you. Feh. Still, that’s a rant for another day) and I’ve never used water in the production of scrambled eggs, so where the chuff did it all come from?
Is there some kind of catering invention that’s like ‘instant’ scrambled eggs – just add water? Is that even remotely feasible?

Friday 13th? And I’m supposed to be travelling?
Oh dear…

The hotel I’ve been using this week has a wireless network, which is nice. However, it’s run by The Cloud, which on current evidence isn’t quite so nice. In fact, on current evidence, I’d have to say it’s pretty shit.
I find that it’s very difficult to log on – and even worse when you’re using one of their so-called “Partners” BT Openzone – and when you do finally connect, the service is sporadic at best. Having used it for a couple of hours overall I find that the entire thing locks up, has serious problems with connecting to email and so on, and is just generally dog-slow, user-hostile, and really really unpleasant to use.
Thankfully next week I should just be on a normal wireless network, as opposed to a commercial piece-of-shit that should work a lot better than it actually does.
