Delayed
Posted: Thu 15 June, 2006 Filed under: @Media 06, Travel 2 Comments »Well, the travel.wasn’t so bad. Mind you, getting up at 5.45 was that bad. And then some.
And the train was OK. Delayed, but not by much, because of some whacking great signal failure, and a diversion via Weybridge and all sorts.
But I got here fine. And all’s good.
Thank God for wireless networks…
Rubber Roads
Posted: Fri 9 June, 2006 Filed under: Green, Travel 3 Comments »Interesting idea in this story from the BBC about a company with plans to use old disused/decommisioned railway lines, and create a road made from recycled rubber car tyres along them, which may go some way to helping relieve congestion.
So – a green option for helping to recycle rubber tyres instead of flinging them on landfill, and a way to make certain roads quicker and (possibly) cheaper than normal methods. And that uses less water etc. than the concrete that’s used in roads?
Sounds like a plan to me…
Card Reader

I suppose that I should’ve tested it out before going away, but well, that’d take all the fun away from it, wouldn’t it?
Still, more news/reviews/thoughts about it when I get back. I hope it works – I’d hate to have thrown the EOS20D through a window…
X-Men3 – again
Posted: Fri 26 May, 2006 Filed under: Domestic, Travel Leave a comment »So, no, we didn’t actually get to see Xmen last night. And it was all because of bloody football.
What I hadn’t realised at the time was that Reading’s football stadium was host to England ‘B’ team vs. Belarus at the same time we were planning to go to the cinema. And so, because Reading’s a fucking nightmare at the best of times, let alone when there’s an England game on (even a B team one) the entire bloody place was gridlocked. Absolutely solid.
So we said sod it. There was no earthly way we’d get to the cinema on time – in fact it was pretty dodgy whether we’d get there before the film was halfway done – so we’ll see it this weekend instead.
All things considered, probably a far better plan.
Common Sense
Posted: Tue 23 May, 2006 Filed under: Customer Services, Cynicism, Travel Leave a comment »Scene : A major commuter railway station. 8.30am.
A flood of people are coming off the train from London to work here. The flood is such that people wanting to get in to the station can’t.
Why?
Because the fucking twunts in the station have locked half the doors, so no-one can use them, in or out.
When I asked why this was, the first person said “I don’t know, I’m Revenue, I just check tickets.”
Well, can you pass the comment on to someone who does work in the sodding station?
“Oh no, I’m just Revenue. You’ll have to talk to the guy in the ticket office”
Grrr.
So I ask him.
“Well, I suppose we could unlock it. Don’t see why though.”
Because it’s busy?
“Oh, I suppose so”
Talk about enthusiasm. I bet the sodding thing’s still locked when I go home tonight.
