Christmas Parties
Posted: Wed 13 December, 2006 | Author: Lyle | Filed under: Festering Season, Work-related | 5 Comments »At work, there’ve been three christmas party type things, and so far, I’m quite proud to say that I’ve managed to avoid them all.
On the first one, I had an interview, and thus couldn’t make it. On the second, I was just too late for a ticket. (i.e. an email got sent out saying ‘all tickets have been sold’, and I made a comment about “Damn I was just going to get one”) For the third, I got the date wrong, and ended up having something else booked in the same time-slot. Whether I would’ve turned up even if I had got the date correct, well, that’s open to discussion. (Anyone voting ‘probably not’ would most likely win a prize)
And now there’s only a week left of work, and I think I’ve dodged the bullet yet again.
In fact, I’ve only ever attended two works christmas parties, and one of those was forced upon me. Then again, I just spent that evening drinking outrageous amounts, and woke up the next morning still pissed.
At the end of the day, my attitude in general amounts to “I don’t like you fuckers when I’m working with you, so why the hell would I want to socialise with you outside work?” Which never seems to go down all that well, but does have the (sole) virtue of being true…
Kerfuckled

Left at 7.55, and got to Cambridge fine, then paid for my ticket in one of the ticket machnes. Transaction authorised, and ten the fucking machine kept my bastard card. No reason – other than that the machine was buggered.
Luckily the train I wanted was also delayed, so I still caught it, and spent some of the journey calling the credit card company, telling them that the card was ‘lost’. (i.e. I knew precisely where it was, I just couldn’t get to the bugger) And then I noticed that the stylus for my phone was gone.
It’s been one of those days, really.
At the end of it, I left in plenty of time to get the train back to Cambridge, and then a connecting one to home. Got there with tons of time to spare, got on the tube train, and stood there for twenty minutes. So I missed the train I wanted, ended up getting to Cambridge at 6.15, and then the next train wasn’t til 7.25.
So eventually got home at 8.15pm. Knackered – and definitely one of those days…
Away Day
Posted: Tue 12 December, 2006 | Author: Lyle | Filed under: Travel, Work-related | Leave a comment »There’s not going to be much posted here today. I’m away from the office (again) for a meeting in London, so it’s all going to be a bit quiet.
And do I expect the meeting to be productive? Do I bollocks.
Still, it makes for a fairly easy day…
Paperwork and Bureaucracy

Hell, even my poxy bank won’t let me change my address on-line. My credit card will. My bank won’t. “We’re working on it. Maybe next year” Yeah, right. Bunch of cunts. Hell, they even fucked it up when I had to do it by phone.
I think we’re now pretty much done on the changes, so we’re now officially here.
And I’ve got a little business idea…
Mystery Job 2
Posted: Thu 7 December, 2006 | Author: Lyle | Filed under: Weirdness, Work-related | Leave a comment »Well, I still don’t know much about this strange job. It’s all very enigmatic.
In fact, you almost start expecting them to say “We could tell you what the job is, but then we’d have to kill you”. Not helped by the job agency providing completely the wrong information about the stuff that the company’s involved in.
Oh, and also having the bizarre experience of being interviewed by someone who’d interviewed me before, several years ago, in a different area, for a different company, for a completely different skillset.
All very strange.
Mystery Job
Posted: Wed 6 December, 2006 | Author: Lyle | Filed under: Weirdness, Work-related | Leave a comment »This afternoon, I’m at an interview. It’s going to be an interesting one, because…
- The company hasn’t given any information about what they’re looking for
- I don’t even really have a job description or list of requirements
- The company won’t even detail what specific parts of my skillset they’re interested in
This job’s come about through an agency, who sent my CV out ‘on spec’ to all the companies they deal with in this region, and this company has come back saying they’re interested. For some godforsaken reason, they’re being really cagey about everything, but have requested I come for this interview.
So it’s going to be a very strange afternoon. There’s a technical test, but they won’t even say what kind of technical stuff they’ll be testing. And basically I’m just going into the entire thing completely blind.
Fun, fun, fun. And very slightly strange…
Refunded
Posted: Tue 5 December, 2006 | Author: Lyle | Filed under: D4D™, Geeky, Getting Organised, Own Business, Work-related | 3 Comments »A while back, I changed my account with 34sp to a ‘reseller‘ account, rather than the numerous individual accounts I had for the various websites I own/run/manage/whatever. It also means I pay £15 per month flat rate, instead of norking about with bits and bobs all over the place.
For me, it means that I can now administrate manage (and bollocks to you both, Jann and Gordon *grin*) all my sites (including D4D™) from one place, it costs me a lot less money, and just generally makes life slightly more organised, professional, and easy.
Anyway, as part of the “costs me less money”, once the sites had been copied over to the new server (reseller accounts are hosted in a different location to ‘normal’ accounts) I cancelled the personal hosting accounts for the individual sites. That particular part was a minor nightmare – but eventually got fixed on Thursday. And all the stuff I’d paid for, but not used (i.e. I’d paid for a year’s hosting, but only used six months, that kind of thing), was refunded to my reseller account, so I can use that credit to pay off those £15 per month amounts.
The amount I was refunded? £165. So my reseller stuff is paid for over the next 11 months – which I’d say was a pretty good deal!
