Faked Tickets
Posted: Thu 21 August, 2008 Filed under: 1BEM, Customer Services, Cynicism, Thoughts 2 Comments »The BBC today has a piece about how to avoid being stung/scammed when it comes to buying concert tickets, following on from the hassles with non-existent tickets from SOS Masters Ltd over the last couple of weekends.
Really though, the entire thing could be summed up with “Only buy tickets from known sources” – even if that means using fuckwit scumbags like Ticketmaster who’ll charge an extra £5 or so per ticket for posting them to you. (not even in separate envelopes) But at least you get the tickets from them (99% of the time – I’ve had one fuckup with them which never got resolved, but that is a rarity) And yes, my opinion is still that it’s better to be ripped off for £5 per ticket than for the full £150 (or whatever) price of a ticket to Reading or Leeds festival, for example. And at least Ticketmaster et al only sell you the tickets they’ve got.
All the same, stories like this won’t stop people from trying to get tickets to sold-out events through resellers or what amounts to online ticket touts, and some people getting ripped off as a result.
Mind you, if times are hard next spring/summer, I can suddenly see a business opportunity – or at least a way to make some cash…
Gym Thoughts
Posted: Thu 21 August, 2008 Filed under: Customer Services, Health Leave a comment »All told, the gym we visited last night looks pretty good. Even better, it’s very local.
Even the membership rates seem sensible/affordable – well, so long as you use the place, of course. If you don’t, then it’s money up the wall, same as any other gym.
But on current evidence, yes, it looks like I’ll be joining up.
AVG Updates
Posted: Tue 19 August, 2008 Filed under: Customer Services, Cynicism, Geeky 8 Comments »For the first time since I installed it, AVG Antivirus is beginning to annoy me.
In general, it’s a fantastic product, and the updates run quickly and easily.
However, for some reason this week every single fucking update is requiring that I restart the laptop. And it’s insisting on it in the middle of a piece of work, which makes it even more fucking annoying.
Hopefully it’ll stop this shit soon, or I’m going to be looking at replacing it.
Visitors and Tracking
Posted: Sun 3 August, 2008 Filed under: Customer Services, D4D™ Leave a comment »It suddenly occurred to me the other day that I hadn’t actually looked at the mybloglog stats in ages. Strange really – hits and visitors used to be something that really interested me, but over the last year or so I just haven’t been looking.
So it was a bit of a surprise when I looked on MyBlogLog to see that
- It had been bought up by Ya-bleedin’-Hoo
- It no longer appeared to be tracking site visitors at all
As a result, I’ve sacked off the MyBlogLog stuff – why not, as it wasn’t doing what I wanted it to anyway – and installed Google Analytics again instead.
It means you might see me blathering a bit about site visitors etc. again before long – but don’t hold your breath.
How not to promote your company

To celibrate 5 years of being on the internet we have decided to offer every regisered customer 10% discount off there next order!
Impressive, three spelling errors in 23 words. That’s a 9% error rate!
Changing Broadband – Part Two
Posted: Thu 24 July, 2008 Filed under: Customer Services, Cynicism, Domestic, Geeky 1 Comment »According to an email I’ve just received, the broadband at home is now running on Tiscali rather than BT.
Of course, I’m working in Essex today, so won’t know if it’s actually worked until I get home tonight and get it all set up. All the same, fingers crossed that it’s all worked smoothly, so I don’t have to spend time tonight swearing at connections etc.
I’m vaguely optimistic – but at the same time, I’m fully expecting to get home and have no broadband at all. I’m cynical like that.
So we’ll just have to see what works, and whether everything’s set up or not. You may (or, of course, may not) hear more about this tonight, depending on ye olde connectivity.
Something Wrong…
Posted: Thu 10 July, 2008 Filed under: Charm School, Customer Services, Driving 4 Comments »There’s got to be something wrong with the picture, when you see a BSM Driving School Instructor (In his BSM-logoed car) making a total mess of a roundabout, being in the wrong lane, and then cutting up another driver (to whit, me) in order to get to the correct place.
It does make you wonder how many of that instructor’s pupils fail though…
