Rebrand

Ah, those fond memories of Oldham.

And now I see that they’ve also rebranded, and redone the logo. Amazing what £100,000 will get you, isn’t it?

Extensions

So yes, yet again I’ve had my contract extended with the current place of work.

Thankfully it’s not the Cambridge one any more, and I started this new contract two weeks ago tomorrow. It was only a short-term stop-gap thing initially which was supposed to end on Friday – but now they want me for a few more weeks while the system goes live on the Intranet.

I must be doing something right – after all, I’m getting the work done (not, as Gordon suggested, “making a mess of it, to keep me in work” nor as Lionel suggested, “working slowly to make it look like there’s more to do”) and generally fixing the problems that had been generated by the last person to be working on the project.

It also makes the agency I’m working through for this contract happy, as it gets them more money – and also happily works as a reference for a couple of the other things they’re putting me forward for once this one’s done.

So all in all it’s going OK, and I must be doing something right. If only I knew what… *grin*

AutoGlass

A couple of weeks ago, the windscreen on Herself’s car developed a fairly serious crack. Not in the field of view, thankfully – but still serious enough that she could hear it continuing to crack as she drove. So out came the insurance, and out came AutoGlass to replace the entire screen.

Only when they did it, the replacement screen had a poxy great scratch acrosss the field of view. So it needed another replacement.

That’s been done today. I’ve driven Herself’s car to my workplace, and Autoglass have come here to fix it, under warranty, and thus at no extra charge.

It’s all done – they came an hour ago, and it’s all sorted. And much as the first replacement was a bit of a bodge, I can’t help but be slightly impressed at how smoothly the entire thing’s gone – it could’ve been so much worse.

Heavy

Driving to work this morning, I thought the car was a bit slow off the mark. Not by much, but just a little bit slow. It wasn’t even a concern, really – just one of those things.

When I got to work, I opened the boot, and realised why. There’s 360 litres of bark-chip still there – I’d been over and bought it yesterday, then left it in the car and forgotten about it.

I’ve no idea what the weight of it all is, but it’s considerable!

Broody (Again)

Gladys, one of our hens, has gone broody again. She did this back in January as well so it’s no big shocker to see her doing it again.

It’s just one of the things with owning chickens, they will go broody on occasion and sit in the nestbox. What’s amusing is that this time round Gladys is being remarkably grumpy, and doesn’t want to be shifted off the nestbox at all. I don’t mind – again, it’s part of just being chickens, and having chickens, but she’s extremely grouchy and really doesn’t want to be moved at all. I’ve been pecked a couple of times

We do have to move her, of course – partly to get the eggs from under her, but also to make sure that she’s getting food and water.

Still, it all just adds to the fun of owning animals – and particularly owning chickens.

Norfolk Weekend

It’s been a funny weekend, really – I haven’t had the time (or inclination) to be writing stuff for D4D™, as we’ve been fairly busy, yet it doesn’t feel like we’ve been busy enough to have a decent excuse.

Still, we’ve been getting a fair amount done.

Friday night was a social evening for a local charity connected (tangentially) to Herself’s work, doing a wine-tasting event – although it was a bit of a bummer to be the designated driver for the evening, as it meant I didn’t get to do any of the tasting!

Saturday sort of slipped away, really – doing a number of housey things, including fitting a new doorbell (we haven’t had one since we moved in, although the old bell-push was still on the door, which led to lots of annoyed delivery people) and just general domestic rubbish – shopping, sorting out plans for the weekend, that kind of thing.

Today we’ve been doing more stuff in the garden, including planting a whole bundle of veg in the veg patch (admittedly, that was mainly Herself) and sorting out some issues with our various water butts and the like. Oh, and I’ve spent some time putting together the basics for a new site, getting it all set up and ready to go.

So – busy, but not massively so. Just a fairly occupied weekend.

Mute

Isn’t it amazing that you can still confuse some people by just turning their phones to silent when they’re out of the office, and the bloody thing keeps ringing?

Even after [cough] years with mobiles, some people just still don’t know how to silence them. Thankfully, some of us do know how to do so…
